Sunset Community Association President’s Message
As we come to the end of another wonderful year, I want to take a moment to say thank you and share some of the exciting things happening in our community.
This year has been filled with fun, creativity, and meaningful connection. We introduced our brand-new Brunch with Bunny event, which was a big hit with families and little ones. Our annual Canada Day Celebration on July 1st once again brought neighbor’s together for a vibrant day of performances and community engagement. In October, we were proud to host the Healing Colors Art Exhibit in partnership with Migrante BC and the Philippine Artists Network for Community Integrative Transformation (PANCIT)—a beautiful showcase of art, culture, and collective healing.
Our Licensed Childcare programs continued to thrive at Sunset and Sexsmith Elementary School, welcoming many new children, while the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre flourished with a rich lineup of cultural programming.
This year, we also advanced an important long-term initiative: the SCA 10-Year Strategic Plan. We are grateful for the thoughtful and valuable input we received from the community at large. Your ideas and perspectives are helping us shape a strong and inclusive vision for the future of recreation, arts, and community services in the Sunset neighborhood.
Looking ahead, we have even more to be excited about. The new Sunset Seniors Centre is anticipated to be completed by Winter 2026. In the meantime, we will be offering a series of free seniors’ wellness workshops to support healthy, active living. We are also in the planning stages for a Multicultural Social & Food Festival to celebrate the diversity of our community. Additionally, next year we’ll be introducing new family events, including a Family Tea Party and a Family Pizza Party.
Wishing everyone a joyful holiday season and a bright, inspiring start to the new year.
Respectfully submitted,
Bhalwinder S. Waraich
President,
Sunset Community Association
