Dear Community Members,
This summer has been one of the busiest and most exciting seasons in the history of the Sunset Community Association. Our summer day camps; licensed childcare, seniors’ programs, and community events are in full swing as we proudly welcomed the opening of the new Sunset Seniors Centre.
The additional program has enabled us to expand services and introduce new opportunities for our community. One highlight has been our successful partnership with the Langara Registered Massage Therapy Program, providing affordable massage therapy for seniors and enhancing their health and well-being.
We also celebrated another successful Canada Day Community Celebration on July 1 and expanded our summer day camp offerings to serve even more local children and families.
Unfortunately, the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre recently experienced a fire incident and is temporarily closed. To minimize disruption, all Moberly programs have been relocated to Sunset Community Centre until further notice. We sincerely thank our staff, instructors, volunteers, and participants for their patience, flexibility, and cooperation during this transition.
Looking ahead, we are encouraged by the City of Vancouver’s commitment through the 2027–2030 Capital Plan to build a new 25-metre swimming pool and expanded recreation facilities at Sunset Park. This significant investment will benefit children, youth, families, seniors, and future generations throughout South Vancouver. We remain hopeful that the city, Vancouver Park Board, Provincial Government, and Federal Government will continue working together to bring these much-needed community facilities to fruition.
The opening of the new Sunset Seniors Centre has also increased pedestrian activity in the neighbourhood. Following SCA’s request, the city has directed staff to review the installation of a marked and controlled crosswalk across Main Street near the Centre to improve pedestrian safety. We sincerely thank Vancouver–Langara MLA Sunita Dhir for her support and advocacy in advancing this important community initiative.
This fall, we look forward to offering another exciting season of programs and events, including seniors’ wellness activities, community meals, Diwali celebrations, Breakfast with Santa, arts and cultural programs, fitness classes, and much more. We invite everyone to participate and experience all that Sunset Community Centre has to offer.

Your hard work, commitment, and shared vision have made Sunset Community Centre a welcoming, inclusive, and vibrant gathering place for people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
