Sunset Community Association (SCA) President’s Message:
On behalf of the Sunset Community Association (SCA,) I hope you all are enjoying this wonderful summer with your family and loved ones. I would like to share a few of the highlights of the SCA thus far.
The SCA’s Summer Escape, REMIX, and Youth camps are back in full swing and running at full capacity at Sunset Community Centre (SCC), Moberly Art’s, & Cultural Centre (MACC) and Ross Park. Our camp leaders are working tirelessly to create exciting memories for the camp attendees with various crafts, activities, and fieldtrips.
In addition, preparation for planning of the SCA’s Licensed Preschool, Full Day Childcare and out of School Care program for its September opening, is on track to start as scheduled to serve working families in the community.
The SCA recently held the flagship Canada Day event, with an estimated turnout of over four thousand attendees. WOW! What a successful Canada Day celebration. It was exciting to see so many families, friends, youth, seniors partaking and enjoying in all the outdoor activities and festivities provided by the SCA and sponsors. This event would not have been a success without the immense assistance of all our volunteers. Thank you, volunteers!
I would also like to announce with immense pleasure that the SCA has been able to procure full funding from the City of Vancouver, for the construction of a new Seniors Centre. This significant new addition to our community will be constructed by the City of Vancouver, next to the Sunset Community Centre.
I would like to thank Hon. Harjit Sajjan (MP) and the City of Vancouver Mayor – Hon. Kennedy Stewart, for their commitment and leadership in securing the funding. In addition, I would like to recognize Hon. George Chow (MLA) and Michael Lee (MLA), for their continued support and recognizing the Sunset Community Association for its leadership and work in the community. Furthermore, I want to thank the various registered Vancouver Societies for their ongoing support of this initiative. Lastly, many thanks to all the SCA Board Members, Park Board staff and all the volunteers for their tireless efforts and continued support.
While it is important to recognize this important milestone, there is much work to be done to achieve the successful completion of this initiative. I look forward to continuing to work with all the stake holders to achieve our shared vision.
Respectfully submitted, Bhalwinder S. Waraich
