Summer Recreation GuideSunset Community Association President’s Message

Summer is Here! The sun is shining, and Sunset is bustling with activity as our summer programs hit full stride! It’s a joy to see so many community members taking part in everything we have to offer.

A big thankyou to everyone who joined us at the Sunset Community Association (SCA) Annual General Meeting on April 24. We’re especially grateful to our dedicated board members for their continued time, energy, and commitment, your efforts have made this past year truly successful.

We’re now looking ahead to one of our most anticipated events of the year — our annual Canada Day celebration on July 1st! This cherished tradition continues to grow, and we’re excited to welcome you for a day of fun and connection. Enjoy carnival games, crafts, live performances, and booths featuring local organizations, partners, and neighbours. There’s something for all ages!

Another exciting milestone is the ongoing construction of our new Seniors Centre, which is progressing beautifully. As we prepare for its grand opening next year, we envision a vibrant, inclusive hub offering a variety of social, recreational, and educational programs from music and dance to workshops for every interest.

Our summer camps are once again a big hit, with spots filling up quickly. Our enthusiastic leaders have put together an exciting mix of in-house activities and out-trips that promise to make this summer unforgettable for all participants.

Meanwhile, the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre continues to be a creative beacon in our community, offering engaging events that celebrate cultural diversity and artistic expression.

On a more somber note, we extend our deepest condolences to the Filipino community following the tragic incident at the Lapu Lapu Festival, Vancouver. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. The Sunset Community Association stands in solidarity — you are not alone.

Warm regards,

Bhalwinder S Waraich
President, Sunset Community Association
