The days are growing longer and I see more people getting out to enjoy the sunshine in our parks and in the halls of the community and arts centers. Programmers Joe Wong, Maggie Li and Lorrie Wager have added over 40 new programs in this brochure to find something that appeals to everyone! Please look through and try something new.
Many exciting initiatives are building in our community. The Greenspace/Master Plan approval will take the area that is the ‘heart’ of our community and join it together so you can enjoy a class at the Community Centre and then walk over to the Rink to watch a hockey game or take a quiet moment in a shaded area.
The Sunset Community Association was pleased to submit its application to be the operators of the new child care space at Sexsmith Elementary School Out of School Care in February. We will keep parents updated as we learn more about the process and next steps.
Spring represents not only a change in the weather, it is also the time that nominations take place on the volunteer Board. I would like to thank Susan Bhatha, Mini Randhawa, Manjit Dhillon and Ken Thompson for all they have done for the Board as they move on to pursue other initiatives.
Ken, as past president, has contributed to the Sunset Community Association for many years and his knowledge and humour will be missed. His final project on the Board is leading the 70th anniversary celebration on April 21st in conjunction with the AGM. Please join us for refreshments and a look back at the at local community members and Bing Crosby’s place in the history that brought us to today
In relation to the on-going negotiations to update the joint operating agreement (JOA) and Activenet systems, progress is slow and the Board and I remain committed to business as usual until it is resolved.
We are so honoured to be celebrating 70 years of supporting and building the Sunset Community. If you would like to be part of the next chapter on the board, please let me know. We are looking for more youth, senior and preschool/out of school care parent voices to build our Board.
Respectfully,
Greg Hubbard
President, Sunset Community Association
