Message from the Sunset Community Association (SCA)

The SCA held its AGM on May 20, 2021, and we would like to congratulate Dr. Kala Singh, Manveet Lail, Doug Newstead, and Maninder Gill for their reappointment as Board Directors. Also, we would like to welcome Phil Daum back to the SCA Board.

This summer, as BC enters Step 3 of the provinceโ€™s restart plan on July 1, 2021, the Sunset Community Centre is very excited to resume many of our high-intensity indoor fitness classes with an increased capacity, such as ballet, karate, and more. Please check out our new Summer Fitness Centre Schedule and enjoy our 10 visit pass promotional offer at a discounted rate of $37.50 ($3.75, per use!). Moreover, we are especially pleased that our Summer Camp and Childcare programs are running in full-swing in July and August. Notably, Sunset has pioneered its first online singing and music theory program in May-June with great success, and additional online programs will be offered this fall.

Due to our desire to commemorate the remains of 215 Indigenous children in Kamloops during the week of June 21, SCAโ€™s annual Canada Community event has been tentatively postponed to September 3, 2021. This welcome back event will permit more individuals to join together to celebrate the arrival of fall and potentially Step 4 of BCโ€™s restart plan in preparation for September 7, 2021. Please stay tuned for an Outdoor Movie Night, Canadian musical performances and presentations, Activity Kits, and more. We are looking forward to seeing all of you join us at the end of this summer.

On July 1, 2021, as well as every July and August Saturday, SCA will continue to distribute food to Vancouver South families who are in need through its successful food program executed in partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Distributions typically include fresh produce, dried goods, and household goods.

Please reach out to Bhalwinder S. Waraich via 604-718-6505 ex 1 if you would like to volunteer and help out with executing or promoting any of the above programs.

Bhalwinder S. Waraich
Acting President, Sunset Community Association
