Sunset Community Centre is seeking dynamic and organized day camp staff to implement and lead Spring Break Day Camp (ages 6‐12). Every week, Spring Break Day Camp offers exciting and engaging activities that provide opportunities to build friendships, sportsmanship, and self‐esteem in a recreational environment. Spring Break Day Camp runs from March 17 to March 28, Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead exciting and age-appropriate activities, including crafts, games, interactive play, and outdoor adventures.
- Supervise and actively engage with children to create a positive, supportive, and inclusive atmosphere.
- Encourage creativity, collaboration, and participation, ensuring all children feel welcome and included.
- Provide guidance and assistance during activities while addressing any behavioural or safety concerns in a calm and proactive manner.
- Manage a small budget, prepare reports, and ensure all waiver forms and necessary paperwork are complete and up to date.
- Liaise with parents/guardians, providing updates and addressing any questions or concerns.
- Lead and mentor Spring Break Day Camp Volunteers, fostering a supportive team environment.
- Ensure health and safety protocols are always followed, maintaining a secure and well-organized camp space.
- Track attendance and report incidents as needed, following all camp policies and procedures.
- Prepare activity materials ahead of time and ensure the camp space is cleaned and organized before and after camp.
- Supervise lunch breaks, engaging with children in a relaxed setting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working in a day camp setting as a leader or volunteer
- Experience working with children and youth ages 5‐16 in a recreational setting
- Excellent communication, leadership, conflict resolution, problem‐solving, and interpersonal skills
- Valid First Aid and CPR is mandatory; a second language is an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a team, and can make appropriate decisions as needed
- Preference given to those with knowledge of community recreation and/or post-secondary training in a related field
- Preference given to those able to work both weeks
- Clearance of a Police Record Check
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. 8-hour shifts ranging between 8:30 am‐4:30 pm, Monday to Friday from March 17 to March 28. Part‐time planning hours in early March will be required.
Rate of Pay: Camp Leader (19+ yrs): $19.50-$21.50 per hour (based on experience & seniority) plus 4% in lieu of benefits. Camp Assistant (under 19 yrs old): $17.40-$18.40 per hour (based on experience & seniority) plus 4% in lieu of benefits.
